Why does MegaRAID Storage Manager 5.5 counts up my "Device IDs" of the disks everytime when I physically or virtually change my drive configuration ? For example: Before I changed any settings Storage Manager showed Device ID 0-7 for the physical disks and after some changes the physical drives now have higher Device IDs (8,11,12,9. How do I prepare used disks for using in an array ? Do I really have to low-level-format all the drives before setting up the array (virtual disk) ?

Which services do I really need to run my RAID arrays ? I've installed MegaRAID Storage Manager 5.5 and since that time a lot of processes are running (Java Platform SE Binary 32bit, VivaldiFramework.exe, Windows-Command-Processor 32bit,) I've optimized my system for low latency/DPC so I don't want any unnecessary services running in the background, least of all any 32 bit processes or Java platform/runtimes.

Does this controller works with UEFI driver and OPROM (depending on CSM settings) ? In the release notes of the firmware they mention a UEFI driver. Is this normal or does it indicate an error? I can't find a description of the LED in the manual. I've spotted a LED (labeld Q4L) on the left side of the J3L1 (Remote Battery Backup Connector) which is blinking in 1 sec intervals all the time. And if I set everything to UEFI (first) in CSM options I see a black screen for about 5 - 10 secs instead of OPROM infos. The initialization process of the drives during WebBIOS OPROM routine takes more than 5 seconds. I don't have any CD/DVD drive, so I can't try Rick's suggestion. I've flashed the firmware via MegaCLI64.exe (in W8) to the latest version, but I still can't get into WebBIOS - I can see the OPTION ROM though, but CTRL+H or CTRL+M doesn't get me into WebBIOS. The only time you would have to have access to it is if you are going to boot from it and you had to make your boot array before installing the OS.

Use the LSI Management software to make any configuration changes to the arrays or controller. If you are not booting from the LSI, there is nothing in the LSI bios settings that you cannot set from the OS after booting. Then shut down, reconnect all drives, and then the lsi bios would open with the ctrl+m.ĥ.
I had to remove all of my drives from the Controller to get the lsi Bios to come up again. I did have one occasion where I could not get into the web bios. It will be obvious it is for the LSI controller when you go into it.Ĥ. It is not labled LSI and I dont have it in front of me so I dont remember the name of the menu item, but it is one of the first ones in the list. With the settings I gave you, in the Advanced tab of the BIOS, you will be able to see the LSI settings.

The problem is if you update your BIOS or just load optimized or failsafe defaults your RAID config will fail next time you boot (W8 BSOD, because Windows tries to load the Intel RAID driver, but the AHCI UEFI driver from the BIOS is present). especially since this new "W8 UEFI optimized" BIOS versions. Last autumn, when I bought the components of my new machine, I thought I could save money and use the onboard RAID - forget it, if you serious about your data and TIME !. My system drive is a SSD on the Intel SATA controller and I would like to have 2x RAID5 arrays as additional data drives on the 9271.
